Focus on export: Corum Group produced powered roof support sections for Turkey

A batch of KD90T 17,5/28 shields for the largest coal mining company in Turkey – Imbat Madencilik was manufactured by Corum Group – “Corum Druzhkivsky Machine-building Plant”.

Shields KD90T 17,5/28 are custom-made and different design from similar equipment previously manufactured by Corum Group for European and Asian mines.

“Corum mechanical engineers designed a special shield KD90T 17.5/28. Its rear part equipped with a sliding gate for crushing large blocks of mined rock and a rear console for controlling caving of a collapsed coal pack, – comments Igor Wasserman, Corum Group Roof Supports Sales and Development Manager. This design will make coal mining and miners’ works safe and effective.”

Shields underwent successful production testing and were checked for compliance with the European standard EN 1804. The operational life of shields is at least 30 000 cycles. The batch is currently shipped to Turkey.

New Ukrainian equipment will help Imbat Madencilik mine coal using a special Longwall Top Coal Caving (LTCC) technology used in thick coal seams from 7 to 30 meters typical for Turkish mines.

“Longwall Top Coal Caving (LTCC) is a caving coal-mining practice. When shearer cuts only about 2,8 m of a coal seam and shield advances after him, the coal that remains above the shield falls onto the rear conveyor behind. As soon as coal seam ends and rock starts falling, a special console moves out behind the shield and advances rear conveyor”, – says Mikhail Lysenko, Corum Group Project Manager.

LTCC coal mining method is used only by a few global companies. Therefore, the equipment for such longwalls is always designed individually taking into account customers unique mining and geological conditions.

“According to Corum 2030 strategy, Turkish market is one of the key directions for our company. The batch of shields KD90T 17,5/28 is the first supply of our equipment to Turkey, – says Oleg Nesterenko, Director of Corum Trading. It’s only a beginning. We will maintain working relationships with our Turkish partners and strengthen our positions.”

The Turkish coal mining company Imbat Madencilik operates a thermal coal mine. Annual average production volume is about 5,5 million tons.
